Lately I’ve been working on the Find Your Fade Shawl by Andrea Mowry and a special collaboration that I can’t wait to show y’all but that will have to wait.  Since I used to live on the Gulf of Mexico, I took my inspiration for my colors from the Ocean.

Here are some of the colors that I chose for the shawl.    I’m using fingering weight, size 4 circular needles — Mint Chip by Nice and Knit; Robin Egg by Nice and Knit; Sagamore by Nice and Knit; Jungle Bungalow by PrimRose; Grumpy Jelly by PrimRose and Are You Sure Hank Done It That Way by Farmers Daughter.  These yarns are so soft and wonderful.  These were all purchased at Bliss Yarns.

I have really enjoyed making this shawl.  It’s so hard to put it down to get other work done.  I’ve never done lace before so it is definitely a challenge.

The shawl looks pretty crazy when you start out.  Several people asked me if I was making a bikini.

I finally made it through Section 8 after taking parts of that section out at least two times and I am now beginning Section 9.  This part is garter stitch blending in my new color.

It sounds crazy but I finally realized that it would be much easier with Lace needles.  So hopefully, they will arrive this week before I get to Section 10 which is more lace.

I will keep you posted and wish everyone a Safe and Happy Fourth of July!!

Happy knitting!

Leslie

It’s been such a busy few weeks. IMG_1453Thoroughly enjoyed the Brioche class that I took.  Had so much fun with some of my knitting buddies and made some new knitting buddies.  Here’s a peak at the finished product.  It was still on the needles when I took this picture.  Lavanya Patricella was a fabulous teacher and Deb’s set up for the class at Bliss Yarns was great.

Then last Saturday there was the big event – visit your “Local Yarn Shop.”  I was invited to set up a Pop-Up Shop to share my stitch markers, journals and cards.  Had so much fun and met so many new people.

Now go over to Instagram and check the Bigskyyarnco Give Away.  The lucky winner will win some of their great yarn and a set of my stitch markers.  Bliss Yarns  carries my complete collection of my stitch markers and stitch counters and carries Big Sky Yarn.

Reminds me of the colors in the Rainbow

What a finish to a weekend … Easter and April Fools all in one day!

Weekend began with a trip to the Vet for our sweet boy Kent but he is doing great.

I finished a limited supply of stitch markers for some upcoming Brioche Cowl knitting workshops this coming weekend at Bliss Yarns.   Stitch markers will be available at Bliss.  I’m sure for those of you who are interested and aren’t local, Deb or one of the lovely ladies there would be glad to assist you.  It’s a fun place to hang out, buy yarn, meet fellow knitters and knit.  So many talented knitters.

I’m really looking forward to taking the class.  Had a surprise opportunity to attend one of the workshops.  The workshops are going to be taught by Lavanya Patricella.  I’m always up for a challenge.  As Lance says, that doesn’t surprise him after all these years, he’s learned to expect it.

Hope everyone has a good week!

As I was sitting down making new stitch markers and reflecting on what inspires me, I thought about colors, music, my experiences and everyday life.  I was working with the color “Light Siam” and one of the songs from the Walt Disney movie Lady and the Tramp popped into my head.   The Siamese cat song, words and music by Peggy Lee and Sonny Burke.  It starts out  “we are Siamese, if you please, we are Siamese if you don’t please…” such a catchy tune.  We had cats when I was growing up and it so reminded me of them.  They were always into something and always pestering our dog.

I thought about the products and projects that I’ve been working on.  I have this one yarn that’s called “Fiesta.”   It reminded me of a time when we attended “Fiesta San Antonio.”   Such  a fun time, lots of color, music and food.  I’ve made stitch markers and am working on a pair of boot socks each inspired from the colors in this yarn.

Pompom. jpgThen there are other times when you are specifically looking for something to match what you already have and all of a sudden it just pops out at you.  I had gotten this great pom pom as a Christmas gift and wanted to make a hat to attach it to.  I found this beautiful Malabrigo yarn at Bliss Yarns.

When you look at nature, there is so much around to inspire us.  This past fall I was sitting out on our patio and noticed the yellow and green leaves as the trees were changing their colors.   I found a great 100% baby Alpaca yarn at The Joy of Knitting that I just had to buy.  It’s going make a great pullover sweater for next Fall and Winter.

It’s amazing to me how songs, our life experiences and the environment that surround us affect what inspires us.

Inspiration can come from anywhere as long as we keep our eyes and ears open.  I hope you take the time to think about what inspires you, where it comes from and that it puts a smile on your face and gives you new ideas.

Bliss YarnsI am so excited!  Bliss Yarns in Brentwood, TN is now offering a selection of my stitch markers for sale.  Thank you Deb for this opportunity!
